In a ‘former life’ I was certified as a Lotus Notes Developer and Administrator. In the pre-internet period I really liked the ability to quickly setup different work flow and approval cycles with Lotus Notes. A lot of corporate customers used the (crappy) interface to roll out applications that interacted between mail, calendar en documents.
But as the browser and its applications gained popularity, Lotus Notes disappeared more and more from the corporate scene. Often to be replaced by expensive implementation and development projects done with the combo Exchange/Sharepoint. Projects taking typically between 6 months and two years to be rolled out with little success because the market conditions have changed drastically during that time. And with per user licenses of several hundreds of euros or dollars…
