A couple of days ago I wrote about the steps that you to take to enable Google’s two step verification and increase the security for your account. Only, what are the (practical) consequences, and more importantly, how do you deal with them?

The perception of security still remains an issue when people think about cloud computing. It should not be with Google Apps’ two-step sign-in. In many cases weak passwords are the root cause of many problems. It is very unlikely that problems originate from the service provider because they have developed strong procedures and internal checks.
Two-step verification, where a ‘token’ is either being generated on your smart phone from your private key or sent to you as single-use text message, makes abuse again more difficult. Google Apps Premier Edition offers this now free of charge.
But how do you configure this?

HR literature sometimes refers to Google’s ‘20% time’ as an example of being creative in HR. Developers can spend 20% of their time on personal projects. Some mega-products such as Gmail have come about in this way, as shown in this info graphic.
Many organizations such as Flanders DC and Creatieve Starters (Creative Starters in Dutch) try to stimulate entrepreneurs in Flanders. They try to stress the importance of innovation and creativity. In order to do something that is really hard for the Flemish: be seen to be different.

With the release of the beta version of Internet Explorer 9 developers can shift their efforts towards support of HTML5 into higher gears. Others browsers such as Safari, Chrome and Firefox, partially, already support the HTML 5 standard.
Using the new standard allows web designers to provide more features without relying on plug-ins in the browser.

How the majority of mail users deal with their congested Inbox I sometimes have a tough time understanding. Because having an empty Inbox at the end of a (working) day gives you a fantastic feeling. A real “I am done with this” feeling.
And yet, over and over during training sessions or after migrations I notice so many users that have an Inbox with sometimes literally thousands of mails. Apparently Michael Arrington of Techcrunch wrote that he has a backlog of more than 20,000 messages to catch up with.

That government agencies and authorities will have to critically review their budgets is as clear as crystal. Maybe it is at the same time a great opportunity to develop a broader vision on how IT can enable new ways of working?

On September 21, 2010 I am doing a presentation “Cloud computing: where do I start?” on Conputerworld’s Cloud Event: The Next Step.
Normally I am using the tranquility of the weekend to prepare and practice my presentations. So that is how I spent the better part of last weekend.
Despite the pressure of doing several Google Apps training sessions in Lithuania last week, a small voice inside my head kept nagging about the content of my presentation. Most of the presentations I get to see focus on two aspects of cloud computing: the features of the solution and the budget savings of moving to the cloud.

Which smartphone platform has the most applications: Android or iPhone?
Is this question really relevant? Maybe a better question is “Which applications bring added value to the end user?”. Two great apps for Android have found a place on my Motorola Milestone: CallTrack en SMS Backup+.

It is fair to say that probably the biggest advantage of using cloud applications in a browser is the fact that changes and new features become immediately available without software updates. With a minimal effort a cloud service provider can roll out new features and/or improvements of existing features to to thousands or millions of users.
